Cambridge

On a sudden, whispering and unannounced,

there crept within this building's galaxy

the secret wonder of a wandering voice.

Here it stole and there it strayed,

between the old man and the youth it laid

it's touch of magic here then gone.

Two, three and more the voices come

echoing between soaring vaults and pendulous glass.

Farther yet and far away the voices fade,

a mystery beyond the candled avenue

melts, dissolves and hides beyond

the darkened window's shade.
